Want to keep your complexion smooth
and youthful? Take a look at your plate.
What you leave off of your plate is
sometimes just as important as the food
you’re putting on your plate when it
comes to nutrients that can affect your
complexion. Put your best face forward
(and improve your health) by keeping
these to a minimum (remember that
classic motto… moderation):
Sugar—Sweets and refined carbs raise
glucose levels, which increases advanced
glycation end products, which in turn
interferes with the repair of collagen and
elastin, a protein that allows skin to retain
its shape.
Saturated Fat—Not all saturated fatty
acids are created equal (see coconut oil),
but experts say that eating a lot of
saturated fat coming from marbled meats
and full-fat dairy products can induce
skin-aging inflammation.
Alcohol—With the exception of
resveratrol-delivering red wine, alcohol
can take a toll on your skin. It dries out
skin and when metabolized in the liver, it
creates skin’s enemy: free radicals.

3 Foods to Avoid if You Want to Look Young.
The Healthiest Ways To Sweeten Up.
Wondering how to naturally sweeten your food?
A general rule for improving your health
is to reduce your sugar intake by avoiding
most processed desserts and giving up
soda. But you can still incorporate certain
sweeteners.
Switch Things Up
Since most people find it too hard to
completely stop eating or drinking these
empty calories, as they are very tasty and
very addictive, try replacing some of the
things you consume which contain added
sugars with versions that do not.
Stevia. Stevia is a sweet tasting natural
herb, and it can be found in a variety of
foods. Though it is not available as a
sweetener, it can be bought as a dietary
supplement. It can be safely used in tea,
coffee, sweets and other foods. Since it’s
low in calories, it’s the ideal option for
those who want to lose weight. It also has
other health benefits such as treating
diabetes, hypertension, dental problems,
dermatitis, acne, stomach ache, digestive
problems and flu. With so many health
benefits, stevia is one of the best natural
sweeteners.
Maple Syrup. Most people think about
using maple syrup only when they are
baking bread or pancakes; however, it can
be used as a substitute for sugar in many
ways. It can be used for making cookies,
cakes and many such sweets, as well as a
topping for toasts, ice-creams and
pancakes. It is known that maple syrup
can bring many benefits to the body,
including promoting the health of the
heart, boosting the immune system,
lowering the risk of prostrate cancer and
others.
Honey. Raw honey is a natural sweetener
that is easily available. Honey has been
used as a sugar substitute for centuries.
You can mix it in milk or spread it on
bread for a great breakfast. Since it has a
low glycemic index, it’s ideal for those
who want to lose weight. If you’re trying
to lose weight, you should take some
honey every morning. Honey is rich in
antioxidants, which can protect your body
from a variety of illnesses. It can also
treat insomnia, beautify the skin, help
wounds heal and promote digestion.
Agave Extract. Agave extract is taken
from the agave plant, and it’s usually
converted into syrup. It tastes similar to
honey, and it’s available in the dark or
light variety. Agave also has a low
glycemic index, and therefore, it takes
more time for it to get absorbed into the
bloodstream. This property of agave
extract makes it the ideal option for
those who want to lose weight the natural
way. It has been proven that agave
extract can relieve inflammations,
enhance theimmune system, lower the
risk of cancer and improve the absorption
of certain nutrients, such as calcium,
magnesium and isoflavones.
Moderation, Moderation, Moderation
The key to sugars and sweeteners in your
diet is moderation. Having a sweet treat
once a week isn’t going to sabotage your
health and fitness goals. Giving up sugar
completely only to live off artificially
sweetened snacks and drinks isn’t a good
idea either. Take the time to wean
yourself off sweetened foods and drink,
using zero-calorie sweeteners to please
your sweet tooth during the interim.
Eventually you’ll enjoy a majority of the
foods in your diet without the need to
sweeten them up as much.
How To: Make People Think You’re A Bigger Deal Than You Actually Are.
Get a fake assistant: I mean, who really knows if “your name + asst @gmail.com”
actually goes to your assistant or to you?
Have “your assistant” schedule with their
assistant. Or, even better than Gmail,
snag your own domain name and redirect
your mail through that account.
Make GoDaddy your friend: Okay
seriously — get your domain. Or a
variation of your name if that’s not
available. It’s usually around $10-$20 per
domain (assuming your name isn’t
Madonna) and about $10 for 5 email
addresses. That’s plenty for you and your
“assistant” @yourname.com.
Grasshopper: We love this service
because it makes any roaming cell phone
look like it’s connected to a big fancy
phone system. For around $10 per
month, you can link multiple cell phones
to the same “landline,” which is easily
managed online.
FedEx for business cards: Now that you
have your domain name and fancy phone
line, spring for business cards. It’s easy to
do with the plug-and-chug biz card
creator on FedEx’s website. Spring for the
slightly more expensive premium paper
ones — after all, your “faking it ’til you
make it” perception is so worth it.
Uber for car service: Once your
“assistant” has set up your meetings and
you’re armed with your business cards,
get this easy, text-on-the-go car service to
pick you up as you’re walking out. It’s
about the same price as a cab and gives
off a “big a*s deal” vibe without more
coin.
Meetings in hotel lobbies: Okay, so let’s
be serious, you don’t have a real assistant
or an office, but setting up meetings in
high-end hotel lobbies is a great way to
go for glam office space on the cheap.
Get a carafe of coffee in the lounge and
set up camp for meetings bootcamp —
it’s classier than Starbucks.
Self publicize!
Whatever you do, you’re an expert at
that. Get your name out there by pitching
yourself through free PR sites
like HARO and Muckrack, which allow
journalists to post queries for the stories
they are working on. Get a mention and a
quote out there and have your “assistant”
email it to the last meeting you had in
the lobby of the Four Seasons and
whamo! You become the bigger deal
people perceived you to be all along!
10 Foods That Make Hair Grow.
When it comes to healthy hair, it’s not just
what you put on your tresses that count
— it’s what you put in your body, too.
“Lather, rinse, repeat” may be standard
advice, but shampoo and conditioner
alone won’t give you the healthy hair you
crave. For the most luxurious locks
possible, you’ll need to step out of the
shower, and into the kitchen.
Your hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch
every month, and the foundation of all of
our new hair, skin, and nail growth is the
nutrients we eat. If you eat a healthy diet,
you will grow stronger and healthier cells
throughout your entire body — inside
and out.
If you were born with fine, thin hair,
you’ll never have rope-thick tresses — no
matter what you eat — but a well-
balanced diet that includes plenty of
growth-promoting protein and iron can
make a difference, say nutrition and hair
experts. And beware of dietary
supplements often marketed to thicken
hair or make it grow faster. They may
backfire. In rare instances, excess
supplementation of certain nutrients,
such as vitamin A, has been linked to hair
loss.
Healthy Hair Food No. 1: Salmon
When it comes to foods that pack a
beauty punch, it’s hard to beat salmon.
Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, this
high-quality protein source is also filled
with vitamin B-12 and iron. Essential
omega-3 fatty acids are needed to
support scalp health. A deficiency can
result in a dry scalp and thus hair, giving
it a dull look.
Vegetarian? Include one or two
tablespoons of ground flaxseed in your
daily diet for some plant-based omega-3
fats.
Healthy Hair Food No. 2: Dark Green
Vegetables
Popeye the Sailor Man didn’t eat all that
spinach for healthy hair, but he could
have. Spinach, like broccoli and Swiss
chard, is an excellent source of vitamins A
and C, which your body needs to produce
sebum. The oily substance, secreted by
your hair follicles, is the body’s natural
hair conditioner. Dark green vegetables
also provide iron and calcium.
Healthy Hair Food No. 3: Beans
Legumes like kidney beans and lentils
should be an important part of your hair-
care diet. Not only do they provide
plentiful protein to promote hair growth,
but ample iron, zinc, and biotin. While
rare, biotin deficiencies can result in
brittle hair. Three or more cups of lentils
or beans each week is expert
recommended.
Healthy Hair Food No. 4: Nuts
Brazil nuts are one of nature’s best
sources of selenium, an important
mineral for the health of your scalp.
Walnuts contain alpha-linolenic acid, an
omega-3 fatty acid that may help
condition your hair. They are also a
terrific source of zinc, as are cashews,
pecans, and almonds. A zinc deficiency
can lead to hair shedding, so make sure
nuts are a regular on your healthy hair
menu.
Healthy Hair Food No. 5: Poultry
Chickens and turkeys may have feathers,
but the high-quality protein they provide
will help give you the healthy hair you
crave. Without adequate protein or with
low-quality protein, one can experience
weak brittle hair, while a profound
protein deficiency can result in loss of
hair color. Poultry also provides iron with
a high degree of bioavailability, meaning
your body can easily reap its benefits.
Healthy Hair Food No. 6: Eggs
When it comes to healthy hair, it doesn’t
matter whether you like your eggs
scrambled, fried, or over easy. However
they’re served up, eggs are one of the
best protein sources you can find. They
also contain biotin and vitamin B-12,
which are important beauty nutrients.
Healthy Hair Food No. 7: Whole Grains
Sink your teeth into hearty whole grains,
including whole-wheat bread and fortified
whole-grain breakfast cereals, for a hair-
healthy dose of zinc, iron, and B vitamins.
A whole-grain snack can also be a great
go-to food when your energy is zapped
halfway through the afternoon, and
you’ve still got hours to go before dinner.
Healthy Hair Food No. 8: Oysters
Oysters may be better known for their
reputation as an aphrodisiac, but they can
also lead to healthy hair — and who
doesn’t love that? The key to their love
and hair-boosting abilities is zinc — a
powerful antioxidant. If oysters don’t
make a regular appearance on your
dinner plate, don’t despair. In addition to
getting it from whole grains and nuts, you
can also get zinc from beef and lamb.
Healthy Hair Food No. 9: Low-Fat Dairy
Products
Low-fat dairy products like skim milk and
yogurt are great sources of calcium, an
important mineral for hair growth. They
also contain whey and casein, two high-
quality protein sources. For some healthy
hair foods “to-go,” try throwing a yogurt
or cottage cheese cup in your bag when
you head out in the morning to snack on
later in the day. You can even boost their
hair benefits by stirring in a couple of
tablespoons of ground flaxseeds or
walnuts for omega-3 fatty acids and zinc.
Healthy Hair Food No. 10: Carrots
Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin
A, which promotes a healthy scalp along
with good vision. Since a healthy scalp is
essential for a shiny, well-conditioned
head of hair, you’d be wise to include
carrots in your diet as snacks or toppings
on your salad.
New Sleep Study Says 6-8 Hours A Night Is Best.
: A
team of British and Italian researchers
recently announced findings of their
review of 16 sleep studies. After
extensive review of over 1.3 million
study participants from Asia, Europe and
the U.S., they found the magic number is
still eight (six to eight to be exact). People
who sleep less than six hours a night are
up to 12% more likely to die prematurely
than those who sleep for six to eight
hours a night. Sleeping too much (more
than nine hours a night), on the other
hand, might be a sign of serious illness.
The new findings, which reinforce prior
recommendations, provide solid evidence
of the direct link between adequate shut-
eye and longevity.
If you are having trouble sleeping look
for natural health solutions first.
Drink This To Lower Your Blood Pressure.
When you want to lower your blood
pressure, think beyond slashing salt,
calories and fat — and also consider what
you can add to your diet. More
vegetables, fruits and lean protein, says
the Institute of Medicine in a February
2010 report on preventing and
controlling high blood pressure. Plus,
recent research points to three beverages
that also may help to lower blood
pressure.
Consider drinking more of the following:
Hibiscus Tea
Wondering about how to lower blood
pressure? It’s as easy as one, two, tea:
Study participants who sipped 3 cups of a
hibiscus tea daily lowered systolic blood
pressure by 7 points in 6 weeks on
average, say researchers from Tufts
University–results on par with many
prescription medications. Those who
received a placebo drink improved their
reading by only 1 point.
The phytochemicals in hibiscus are
probably responsible for the large
reduction in high blood pressure, say the
study authors. Many herbal teas contain
hibiscus; look for blends that list it near
the top of the chart of ingredients–this
often indicates a higher concentration per
serving.
Low- or Nonfat Milk
Both supply potassium and calcium, two
nutrients that are associated with healthy
blood pressure, and are fortified with
vitamin D—a vitamin that new research
suggests promotes healthy blood
pressure. Substituting low-fat dairy—
including milk—for full-fat versions may
also help lower blood pressure, reports a
2009 study in the British Journal of
Nutrition. In healthy people, arteries are
“elastic”: they relax (widen) and constrict
(narrow) to keep blood pressure within a
normal range. Full-fat dairy contains
significant amounts of palmitic acid (much
more than low-fat dairy), which can block
signals that relax blood vessels, leaving
them in a constricted state that may keep
blood pressure elevated.
Cranberry Juice
At your next celebration, raise a glass of…
cranberry juice? Turns out, cranberry
juice has the same blood pressure–
lowering effects as red wine, according to
a 2010 study in the Journal of Agricultural
and Food Chemistry. (The study was
partially funded by Ocean Spray.) Both
beverages—as well as apple juice and
cocoa—boast antioxidants called
proanthocyanidins, which inhibit synthesis
of a compound called ET-1 that plays a
role in constricting blood vessels.
Presidency Plans to Make Sporting Activities Compulsory in Schools.
Plans are underway to make
participating in sporting activities
compulsory for all primary and
secondary school pupils in the country.
President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed
this in Abuja on Thursday at the launching
of the national mobilisation campaign for
grassroots sports tagged: “Rhythm and
Play”.
“The aim is to nurture athletes for the
country for international competitions
and through this effort, we intend to
bring physical education back to our
schools.”
He noted that the idea was a fallout of
the presidential retreat on sports
organised last October which was also
“aimed at building a worthy nation for the
younger people.”
“Late last year, we convened a retreat on
sports which did not only analyse the
challenges in sports but also came up with
a clear roadmap for its development in
the short, medium and long term.”
“The programme that we are launching
today will provide young Nigerians under
the age of 17 with structured
programmes that combine sports and
play as critical learning and development
tools.
“This initiative will revolutionalise grass
roots sports in Nigeria. Our target is to
introduce two million additional children
to sports over the next two years.”
“In this regard, we have directed the
National Sports Commission and the
Federal Ministry of Education to work
toward achieving this target,” Jonathan
said.
He said that the country had done well in
sports in recent times and measures
were needed to be put in place to ensure
that the successes recorded were
sustained.
He emphasised the need to give grass
roots sports development serious
attention as sports was a veritable tool
for fostering cohesion and nation
building.
“So far we have done well in our efforts
to fly the country’s colours at the 2014
World Cup in Brazil going by the results
so far, we are very hopeful.”
“We must build on this momentum and
trend; we must take every step to ensure
that our successes are sustained.
“We believe that grassroots sports
development and nurturing will provide
the way for our country,” the president
added.
Sports minister, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi
said that the NSC would collaborate with
government in the 36 states and the FCT
to get additional two million children
across Nigeria to take to sports.
“To achieve this, every state of the
federation including the FCT is expected
to identify 2,200 children with potentials
every month,” Abdullahi said.
He said that the NSC would work through
its 12 zonal offices in the country to
establish sports clubs in all secondary
schools across the country.
The NSC zonal offices are located in
Ibadan, Akure, Benin, Port Harcourt,
Enugu, Nguru (Imo), Jos, Minna, Kaduna,
Sokoto, Bauchi and Damaturu.
“What we are going to do is to target 22
schools in a state; if we are able to get
100 children in 22 schools in a state
across the country, we are going to have
2,200 children per state every month.”
“This will amount to about 80,000
children in a month across the country
and in two years will be able to deliver
almost two million children that will play
sports.”
“Under the “Rhythm and Play”
programme, we are going to provide a
platform of opportunity for children of
school age to participate in sporting
activities.”
“We are going to leverage on existing
competitions and championships to
increase participation in grass roots
sports.”
“We are going to use this platform to
attract private sector sponsorship to
academia sports and youth sports
activities.”
“We are also going to use the framework
to nurture Nigeria’s future global
champions and propel them to the
podium play level,” Abdullahi said.
The minister gave assurance that the NSC
would train games masters for the
programme and deliver sports
equipment to all the schools.
The “Rhythm and Play” is an exciting
youth-friendly campaign aimed at
enhancing mass youth participation in
sporting activities and age grade
competitions.
It is also NSC’s flagship programme, which
will rely heavily on the use of music,
dance and celebrities to mobilise children
to participate in sports for grass roots
development.
WE Will go to Court If Their Rights Are Infringed – Ango Abdullahi
In a statement, released by their
spokesman, Prof Ango Abdullahi, the Elders
Forum warm the Federal Government on
the decision and added they will head to
court if rights of their people are infringe
by the decision.
The NEF spokesperson said that “we don’t
know the content of the proscription (Ban)
as regards the Boko Haram and Ansarul.
“Boko Haram, to my understanding, is not
an organization that has been in existence
under the Nigerian laws. You proscribe an
organisation when it is recognised or
registered with the Corporate Affairs
Commission as an organisation.
It was founded as an organisation offending
the laws of Nigeria. This is the basis one can
say that such organisation could be
proscribed.
“But, outside that, one begins to hope that
there will not be infringement on freedom
of association, freedom of speech, freedom
of propagating religious beliefs and many
rights that are enshrined in the Nigerian
constitution.”
Prof Abdullahi added that, “I hope that none
of these freedoms will be touched because
if they touch them there is a clear
infringement on the right of the citizens.
And the citizens will go to court to challenge
the violation of their rights.
“Our concern is that these organisations are
not in any law book, not in Corporate
Affairs. Government initially said they didn’t
know the group. So you only proscribed
what is in existence under the law.
“What I thought government should do is to
concentrate on what they are doing and to
see in what way these people can emerge
and engage in discussion and dialogue so
that these crises could come to an end.
“Our concern is that our rights as citizens
will not in any way be breached.
“Everybody was happy when the committee
on peace and dialogue was set up, and then
soon after there was a declaration of state
of emergency.
The people you said they should come and
talk with you, how will they come out when
there is a state of emergency? How do you
expect them to come out?
The proscription, again, is undermining the
work of the committee; the committee
cannot make progress after this
proscription.”
3 Tips to Getting a Job From a Pro.
Roy Cohen, a professional career coach and
author of "The Wall Street Professional's
Survival Guide," has two words of advice for
job seekers: Embrace rejection. Cohen, who
has been helping individuals find work for
more than 20 years, recognizes that rejection
never feels good. But to be successful in this
job market, you have to put yourself out
there, he argues.
“My measure of a really great job search is
getting rejected a lot,” he says in an interview
with The Daily Ticker. “The reality is more
activity means more rejection. We live and
work in a world now where there is constant
rejection. You’ve got to get tough.”

Ambitious Women
The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the
May employment report on Friday. In April
the U.S. economy added 165,000 jobs. Nearly
12 million people were unemployed in April;
of that group 37.4% or 4.4 million individuals
were “long-term unemployed,” which the BLS
defines as jobless for at least 27 weeks. As of
March there were more than 3 million
Americans who have been unemployed for at
least a year.
Williams Dickens, a professor of economics
and social policy at Northeastern University in
Boston, and PhD candidate Rand Ghayad
recently published a groundbreaking report on
the plight of the long-term unemployed. They
sent out 4,800 fictitious resumes to 600 jobs.
The level of experience and employment
history varied for each candidate but all were
male and had similar education backgrounds.
Individuals who had been out of work for less
than six months received the highest number
of callbacks; even if another individual was
more qualified for a position, the applicant
who had been out of work the longest would
rarely get an interview. This experiment by
Dickens and Ghayad underscores the
challenges in the labor market today.
Cohen says unemployed individuals can take
several steps to improve their chances of
getting a job. If someone has been out of work
for several months or years, employers will
want to see that the job candidate has been
productive during his or her time off. Get
certified, take classes, learn a new language or
volunteer in an industry that’s relevant, he
recommends.
Related: Can eHarmony Help You Find a Job?
Networking has become a crucial element in
the job search process but individuals need to
ramp up their activity level, Cohen insists.
“In the job search you’ve got to be everywhere
at once, he says. “Clients tell me ‘The job
search is so much more rigorous and
demanding than actually working on the job.’”
Networking involves contacting former
colleagues, family friends and neighbors for
job connections but also “surrounding” the
companies you want to work for, Cohen says.
Get the names and emails of hiring managers
who are likely to agree to informational
interviews. But most importantly, job seekers
should not spend hours perfecting a generic
resume, Cohen advises.
“You really need to focus on a bespoke resume
that speaks to those qualifications and
requirements,” he says.
And what about the vexing cover letter? Create
a boilerplate letter that clearly outlines your
qualifications and why you’d be a good fit for
the company, Cohen says. Resumes may hold
more sway with human resources but there is
a small minority of HR professionals that read
them, so letters must be well written and free
of grammar and spelling errors.
Topic: Are You Blocking Your Chance at Love?
We all have insecurities to some degree. We have days where we wake up ready to conquer the world. Sometimes we have bad days where we suffer from lingering feelings of self-doubt. It's part of life. Sometimes our emotions get the best of us, especially in areas of love and relationships. So when does relationship insecurity start to block your chances at love?
This week, a reader writes:
"I broke up with my ex about a year ago and for awhile, it was pretty hard for me to move on. It wasn't the best relationship but it was still pretty hard for me to get to a point where I wanted to date. About 4 months ago, I met this new guy and we have been dating exclusively for almost a month. He's a sweet guy, but I catch myself being angry with him for things that my ex did. I know that on some level, I am sabotaging my relationship with him for fear of being hurt and I want to get rid of this insecurity before I mess things up. What should I do?"
When your bad days start to outnumber the good and your insecurities start interfering with your ability to foster relationships, it's time for some serious self-reflection.
Insecurities are fear-based beliefs that are birthed from bad experiences. These experiences have been flagged in our memories and provoke unhealthy emotional responses against ourselves and others. If left unchecked, it can take over your life and prevent you from getting the things you truly want and need to be happy.
Whether you are currently in a relationship or on a search for one, there is one thing that needs to be understood for you to move forward; until you fully address those areas of insecurity, any progress you make in your relationships will more than likely be temporary.
There's no quick fix. It definitely takes a positive attitude, a lot of patience and a genuine want and need for change. They key is to learn to control the way you react and respond to the events that trigger these insecurities.
Here are some things to consider that might help you get on track:
You have to figure these emotions out. What is the problem? Why do you feel the way you feel?
Own it – whatever the problem is, however you feel about it, it's yours, and you are responsible for whatever comes of it.
Set Goals, make a plan and take action.
Surround yourself with positive and supportive people.
Revisit your plan and measure progress.
Stop comparing yourself to others.

BBM Is Not Coming To iPhone And Android On June 27.
According to a source with knowledge of BlackBerry's plans, the June 27 launch date for BBM on Android and iPhone is not correct. In fact, our source called all those stories you may have read "bogus."
It's unclear why T-Mobile tweeted that information in the first place, but it's not correct. There were some scattered reports yesterday with the June 27 launch date, so it's possible whoever runs the T-Mobile UK Twitter account picked up on those without checking with the higher ups.
For example, GSM Arena wrote a story on June 4 that said BBM was coming to Android and iPhone on June 27. That story was based on a tweet from a BlackBerry account that doesn't appear to exist anymore.
BBM is BlackBerry's messaging service. The company announced last month that it will expand the app to Android phones and the iPhone later this year, but did not give a solid release date.
Be patient. BBM is coming. Just not on June 27.
Stroke is the first cause of acquired disability in the world.
A stroke, brain attack, or a Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), is the sudden death of brain cells caused by a lack of supply in oxygen to the brain. There are two main types of stroke:
- Ischemic strokes or cerebral infarcts (80% of strokes) result from a blockage or a reduction of blood flow in an artery that irrigates the brain. They are caused either by a blood clot (thrombus) which blocks the blood vessel or by the buildup of plaque (often due to cholesterol) within the arteries which narrows vessels resulting in a loss of blood flow.
- Haemorrhagic strokes are due to the rupture of an artery within the brain triggering an intracerebral haemorrhage (15% of strokes) or to the rupture of an aneurysm (arteriovenous malformation) entailing subarachnoid haemorrhage (5% of strokes).
What are the consequences of a stroke?
Resulting disabilities will vary depending on stroke location and severity.
After a stroke, brain cells die in the affected areas resulting to damaged or even lose neurons. Patients will often suffer physical disabilities such as partial loss of motricity or hemiplegia, sensory loss, language disorders, aphasia, visual disorders, and even memory loss. Level of recovery will vary from patient to patient. Starting rapidly a rehabilitation program is key to recovery.
Is there anything to boost recovery?

GEJ Is Displaying Desperation For 2015 - David Ugolor.
Reverend David Ugolor, a rights activist, is the Executive Director, African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ). In this interview with ALEMMA-OZIORUVA ALIU in Benin City, he spoke on the raging crisis in the Rivers State PDP involving Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the 2015 general election build-up.
WHAT is your stance on issues relating to the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and the Presidency?
This is another Abuja magic in display, we are in trouble. Femi Falana recently released a statement where he said there is a gradual move to dictatorship in Nigeria and attempt to muzzle opposition groups and free speech. You know Falana cannot just make a statement out of the blues. I raised the alarm that this government is not willing to listen to alternative voices, every attempt to demand justice, has been frustrated and the level of impunity today in Nigeria is alarming, it cuts across government sectors and institutions.
If you look at the just released human rights report 2012, it is the same message and the response of this government has been very bad; yesterday it was me, today is Amaechi, tomorrow it could be Adams. The Niger State governor also said so recently. So you can see that there is a gradual trend towards muzzling people with alternative views and even a threat to justice and once there is threat to justice, you cannot talk of the rule of law, you cannot talk of democracy.
The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) is a platform for the governors to articulate their positions. They are not arms carriers. The NGF is made up of both governors from the opposition and ruling party and they elected Amaechi as their chairman, and all the issues he has been raising are not his personal views they are consensus issues. Should he now pay a price for that? But you can see that this Abuja magic has brought politics into the NGF and this we condemn outrightly and as if that is not enough, this Abuja Magic which is interpreted as those old politicians who have expired in their states, as soon as they form partnership with the presidency, they try to undermine everything that happens in the states; they portend danger. The on-going politicisation of the NGF activities is condemnable, it is unacceptable and as civil society, we cannot keep quiet.
They brought the judiciary into who becomes the chairman of PDP in Rivers State. They went to Abuja to get a court ruling, something that could be done in Port Harcourt. It is an attempt to muzzle Governor Amaechi and Nigerians should oppose it. If the President wants to contest in 2015, the first thing he should do is to engage all stakeholders from the region, particularly the NGF. I don’t think anybody who wants to be president of Nigeria should be fighting Amaechi who is the chairman of the NGF because the position is that of the NGF. They are playing dirty politics. Look at the delay or seizure of the Rivers State aircraft. The differences between the President and Amaechi is dirty politics, an attempt to undermine some persons as we move towards 2015, it is 2015 politics at play. Even at that, does Amaechi not deserve and have the right to aspire to be president of this country? Does any other person from the South-South not have the right to become the president? It is like once you make contrary statements, you become a target and it is wrong.
Do proper assessment of South-South presidency, what practical benefit has the region got from this government? Amaechi raised concern about the East West Road. Who will say that the road is not an issue in the Niger Delta? He said if the Federal Government cannot handle it, let the South-South governors handle it. Is there anything wrong about that? The politics surrounding NGF has to do with 2015 election and we are saying that everybody, every tribe in the region all has the same right to aspire to become president of this country.
But as a matter of fact, I am not to concerned about who becomes president because from the example in Edo state, the issue of tribe does not really matter. To a large extent, if Oshiomhole was to contest on the basis of ethnicity, he may not even become a councillor in the state. But the people of Edo believed that ethnic background is not the issue but who is able to deliver.
If an opinion poll is carried out in the region today, people are not happy with the current presidency of Godluck Jonathan. The so-called South-South presidency is a ruse, no benefit has come to the region and I think we have a responsibility to begin to articulate views that will help to advance the cause of our people. The fact that less than one per cent of those who believe in arms are currently in comfort zone with the present government does not take away our own right to ventilate our concerns and as an Urhobo person, I have a right to articulate issues that will advance my tribe in the region. The fact that we don’t carry arms in the region does not mean we are silly because we have our own vision.
Allegation that the NGF and its chairman have become like an empire and emperor
NGF is a kind of pressure group registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Its members have their positions. If you have contrary views to what they say, you also have the right to reply to their views. You cannot use federal agencies to now undermine the views of the NGF; it is unacceptable, it is dictatorship and a move to muzzle alternative views. ‘When NGF is supporting the presidency, it is good when they have alternative views, it is bad.’ You don’t run a country like that. Look at the issues they have been raising, Sovereign Wealth Fund and others. The states have their autonomy. The constitution is clear about allocation of resources.
You cannot use state resources to run the SWF and that is what the state governments are saying. Today it is Jonathan, tomorrow it could be anybody. He should not use federal government agencies to do 2015 because he is setting a bad precedent. At best, he will be president for eight years and that is why we are concerned but other persons will be president tomorrow. Look at Obasanjo today, he has become an emergency activist, if somebody had told him he will now be running around as an activist, he won’t believe. Yesterday when he was president, he was so dictatorial and that is why we are saying the right regulations should be put in place instead of castigating and hounding those who hold contrary views because you will not be there tomorrow. Look at people like El-Rufai, Oby Ezekwesili, today they are with us but yesterday they were in government. I don’t think if anybody had told El-Rufai that he will take this stance today, he would believe. So Jonathan should remember these people, let the right policies be in place.
How do you see the recent presidential pardon?
Pardon is now being given to some tribes and some tribes are not given. What is the difference between James Ibori and Diepreye Alamieyeseigha? As a matter of fact, Alamieyeseigha also has an international dimension to his corruption. That is why I want to appeal to the international community that they should not play into the hands of this government because this government’s so- called anti-corruption crusade is wrapped up in tribal sentiments; so when this government said they were cooperating with the British government to bring Ibori to justice, it was a ruse. The British government is wiser. A few months ago, Tinubu was being paraded before the Code of Conduct Tribunal because of his strong views.
We all have a responsibility to defend this democracy. Left alone, I don’t think Jonathan would have become the president of this country. Nigerians fought doggedly for him. We also have the right to disagree with him. Anybody from the Niger Delta who has been driving along the East West road would not be happy with the pace of work there and I don’t think that can fetch him votes from there. Let him not be deceived, Abuja Magic cannot say who will be president in 2015; it is what you are able to do, and what he is able to deliver to the region that will be the basis for who becomes what.
Violence is not exclusive to any particular tribe. The federal government now deals with only those who carry arms. The fact that the Urhobo do not carry arms, the fact that the Ogonis did not carry arms, does not mean they are silly. Look at the billions of naira that have been sunk into amnesty which would have been used to build infrastructure. This is fraud, less than one per cent of the people in the Niger Delta are the ones benefiting from the amnesty. This government has not been able to justify the billions it has spent on the people of the area to justify the sacrifices people have made, sacrifices made by Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni Eight, sacrifices by other tribes in the region. You cannot appropriate such for just one tribe. I think the presidency is heading for disaster in the region and every tribe have the right to defend its own. Amaechi comes from a tribe and every tribe has the right to aspire to be president of the country.
On Obasanjo’s criticism of the Jonathan administration’s fight against corruption
As far as I am concerned, Obsanjo has lost his moral right to criticise this government. He is an hypocrite; his daughter who was a senator was accused of corruption, he is only trying to whip up sentiments. Jonathan is the president of this country; what Obasanjo is doing is unacceptable. When Obasanjo was president, nobody would do to him what he is doing to Jonathan today. What moral basis does he have? If you want to even compare him to Jonathan in terms of listening to alternative views, Jonathan is better. If he had allowed Nigerians to pick their president, we won’t be where we are. It was because he singlehandedly picked Yar’Adua who later died that brought about Jonathan. If he had allowed Nigerians to pick their leader, it would have been different. We are asking Jonathan to deliver because we want true democracy. Our criticism is that he should not use state machinery to manipulate his coming back in 2015.
Comment on the one year anniversary of the death of Olaitan Oyerinde
One year after, the President of this country has failed again. It becoming increasingly clear who killed Olaitan, there is no doubt about it. What they wanted to do was to rope me in and close the case but it is now clear that the they killed Olaitan. It was the President that ordered the investigation into the killing and after almost a year nothing has happened to the extent that a sitting governor, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state had an altercation with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice who lied to Nigerians. It is the same Abuja magic, when they didn’t feel comfortable here in the state, they had to approach the federal DPP (Director of Public Prosecution) for advice on the matter that happened here in Edo; expired politicians who run to the federal government once they see they cannot use their power in the state. All these show the culture of impunity in Nigeria.
Till today, the investigation of Olaitan’s killing is still shrouded in controversy, on who killed him, who did not kill him and I think that in a country where we are talking of democracy, the president by now would have invited the SSS and the police. I hope that as we mark his one year anniversary, it provides us with the energy to continue to demand for justice for him, for us and for his family on who killed Olaitan Oyerinde. But like I said, from the way the police tried to frame me up, that those young men that police claimed killed Olaitan where shot to confess me and we made this point clear through Femi Falana during the public hearing on the matter and up till today, that allegation has not been countered.
On centenary celebration
This provides an opportunity for us to look back. Where are we coming from? Government is investing more resources to embark on criminal investigation and prosecution. We are not heading anywhere. Impunity is increasing daily and I think that according to the book of Leviticus as we approach jubilee period, we should all come together. Most of the political elites are enmeshed in corruption. I think we should have a fresh beginning. Everybody should be forgiven so that we can start on a new slate because the man who wants to prosecute the other person is also corrupt.
On Edo council election
It is still the case of Abuja Magic. I will comment on the post-election. I congratulate the Edo State government for conducting the election. It was done because of the agitation of Edo people that they need a democratically elected local government administration and the government responded. At least, there is a general consensus that election was held and issues arose. Although I didn’t monitor the election but my colleagues did and from my own appraisal, the key lesson we must learn is that there are areas we must improve on, but the idea that election should be cancelled is unacceptable.
We must move forward, people have invested resources, elections have been organised and people have won and some have lost. The constitution is clear, when you lose an election, you can approach the court, and we will monitor the court process as civil society groups to ensure that the judiciary does its part. I also condemn the violence that erupted. People should not see election as a do-or-die affair, election should be for service. When you don’t win, go and do other things. We must commend the Edo state government for two reasons: for listening to the agitation of the people that election should be conducted and then the logistics challenge. I think the idea of printing our materials from abroad is not acceptable; we must internalize, localize, domesticate because apart from the capital outflow, we must learn to trust ourselves. I understand the challenge of the materials not being hijacked but I think they should improve on it in future so that those things can be printed here.
Amaechi's Only Sin Is His NGF Victory.
Nigeria, the self-acclaimed giant of Africa, is one of the few countries where citizens become endangered species once they foray into politics.
At the beginning of the face-off between the camp of Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the powers that be, I said that in not too distant future, a major player in the continuing battle would raise a disturbing alarm. The assertion came to pass seventy-two hours days after the chairmanship election of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF. The duly re-elected chair of the body (as we’ve all now confirmed) at a gathering, alleged that “Federal People” were after his life; “Pray for me” he pleaded.
As for the traitor called Nyesom Wike, Minister of State for Education, he has given credence to the axiom: Best friends can be worst enemies. Thanks to him, governors now have an impeccable reason not to nominate their Chief of Staff for federal appointments. I am sure Amaechi, even with 99% alcohol in his blood stream, will not repeat that faux pas if the hand of time is reversed. Wike is playing god and his body language corroborates this. He is emboldened by his possession of the Rivers state People’s Democratic Party executive committee and the promise of a governorship ticket in 2015. Obviously to secure his political future, he has handed over his goodluck to Goodluck.
A research shows that on the issue of short-list for national executive jobs, most governors eventually regret the choice/s they make. It appears that a demon enters some of the appointees soon after they land juicy posts; pertinent to add that Ministers and head of parastatals are the usual culprits. You need to see their intimidating convoy in Abuja, the nation’s capital. These are people that hitherto had only one or two cars. Merely weeks into their new found glory, they wear arrogance like a well-tailored Babaringa. You then wonder how a man, who had to face 106 Senators for screening and probably asked to recite the National Anthem like a Primary Two student, suddenly lives and act like an emperor.
The Federal People and the leadership of the PDP, supported by their apologists, claim that their common foe siphon monies meant for developmental projects; that his achievements does not match funds allocated to/generated by the state; that he has marginalized some quarters; that he doesn’t kiss the foot of the President…bla bla bla. But do you on the basis of that scheme the man’s removal without following due process? I am not in any way supporting his deficiencies, but if you do not like an elected public office holder and wish to remove him, it is required that you at least respect the provisions of the constitution.
For the benefit of those with little or no idea of the genesis of the conflict, let me bring you up to speed. Sometime in 2012, Amaechi at a meeting declared that as an Ikwerre from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area, it would not be fair for another person from same Ikwerre to succeed him in 2015.
The statement which makes sense, in view of the peculiarity of our multi-ethnicity, did not go down well with Wike, also an Ikwerre from Rumuepirikom community; he has his eyes set on the State's number one seat. Since then, he has colluded with the Presidency to make life hell for his one-time friend.
Adekoya Boladele, in his recent opinion advised President Jonathan to take a cue from his estranged godfather, if he really wants to rubbish someone. “I think the President need to talk to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and learn a thing or two on how to bring down his political enemies…Every attempt by him to bring down Amaechi has brought the presidency to ridicule and public condemnation,” he opined.
No doubt the Rivers helmsman is now widely regarded as a hero and someone being victimized for daring to say NO to certain policies; for having the audacity to show legitimate interest in a attaining a higher position in life. I thought ambition is one of the attributes we all possess as human, so when did God label it a sin or have I been in coma since birth? I totally agree with the comment by Sokonte Davies, a House of Representatives member on platform of PDP. Reacting to the controversy surrounding the outcome of the NGF poll, he declared that this is the first time in history somebody is being punished for winning.
At a time most of his colleagues in same party would sit on the fence to avoid a clash with the overall Oga at the Top, Amaechi would always speak his mind. Few days to the disputed election, there were reports in the media of how Jonathan forced some state governors to vote for his last-minute candidate, Jonah Jang of Plateau. Of course they bowed to his inclination because intelligence gathered against them revealed staggering and monumental corrupt practices.
Come to think of it, PDP as a party has a thing for Septuagenarians. National chairman, Bamanga Tukur; Board of Trustees chairman, Tony “Mr. Fix It” Anenih and lately, favoured stooge, Baba Jang, are all above the age of 70! Not surprised though, the party’s National Youth Leader, Garba Chiza, is 61 years old!
The treatment being mete out to Ameachi is prejudicial and I urge the 27 supporting members in the House of Assembly to remain unshaken in their resolute to do the right thing. Posterity will not take it lightly with them if they sell their conscience even for porridge worth billions
Two years to his re-election, President of the United States, Barrack Obama, invested heavily in the youth as well as information communication and technology. He embarked on sweeping health reforms, boosted foreign bilateral trade and partnership, and re-moulded his country’s image in a bid to portray it as a friendly world power and not a war monger.
Here, it is two years to general elections and electricity supply is yet desirable. In fact as I typeset this piece my generating set is on, while they are busy lavishing our collective wealth on a frivolity tagged ‘Democracy Day Presidential Dinner’. Healthcare and education sectors still cry for help yet we are building more federal universities and doing ground-breaking ceremonies for hospital projects; urban settlements still get royal treatment to the detriment of satellite towns which in actual context are slums; the SURE-P jobs they make so much noise about are only seen by them – we should ask our statistics’ managers to tell us if unemployment has reduced from 24% it was in 2011; internal security is at the scariest level with three states slammed with State of Emergency and others at the risk of same; one can go on.
Instead of working vigorously to ensure that efforts (whether that is enough requires a separate debate) injected in these areas are seen and felt by the ever-expectant electorate, we are fuelling the split of our Governors’ Forum. What a shame; Oh, what a big shame!
APC Is Dead On Arrival In Igboland - Uwazuruike
Speaking yesterday when Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, a governorship aspirant in Anambra State paid him a courtesy visit, observed that Ndigbo had attained a high level of political consciousness that would make it difficult for APC to survive in Igbo land.
He said: “APC is dead on arrival in Igbo land. We have not walked that path before and I don’t think APC will favour Ndigbo and that is why we still insist that the legacies our late leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu left behind, should not be allowed to die.
“I am here to make sure there is peace in Igbo land, and the issue of who becomes the next governor of Anambra state still lies with the masses. I am only here to bless all the aspirants and the rest is left for the people.
“I don’t like the situation where my people continue going to court after each election and stay in court even till the end of the tenure of the election in contention.”
The MASSOB leader further said as the Igbo leader, the issue of who became the next governor of Anambra State laid with the masses
The new face of technology
ENTER OPON IMO.
So, when a breed of country youth are
educationally bred on a computer tablet, in
which all recommended textbooks are
stored and which battery, other things
being equal, could be charged on solar
energy, then something good is happening
to education. The result, again other things
being equal, some 20 years down the line,
would be no less than spectacular than
Awo’s free primary education policy has
been.
TOUCHING STORY.
A 24 year old boy seeing out from the
train’s window shouted…
.
“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”
.
Dad smiled and a young couple sitting
nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish
behavior with pity, suddenly he again
exclaimed…
.
“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”
.
.
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the
old man…
.
“Why don’t you take your son to a good
doctor?”
.
.
The old man smiled and said…
.
“I did and we are just coming from the
hospital, my son was blind from birth, he
just got his eyes today.”

JONATHAN IS A TOTAL FAILURE SAYS FANI- KAYODE.
Fani-Kayode said: “I watched the dinner the
PDP held and I was appalled by the fact
that they gave themselves a pass mark.
They were clapping and saying President
Jonathan should continue.
“Look, Czar Nicholas of Russia, a night
before the Russian Revolution, clapped for
himself. This thing happens all the time.
Hitler, a night before the Russian knocked
on the bunker and he had to kill himself,
also clapped for himself. Don’t expect the
ruling party, which has lost touch with
reality and has become delusioned to score
itself in an equitable and fair way. If it is
out of 100, they will score themselves 110
over 100.”
The former minister challenged the
government to tell Nigerians what it has
done to improve on what happened up till
May 29, 2007.
He accused the Jonathan administration of
allowing every sector to degenerate.
Nigerians Protest In London Against President Jonathan. S-H-A-M-E!.
Nigerians Protest In London Against
President Jonathan.
It was a show as shame today in
Westminster, London when about 6
Nigerian Youths living in London organised
some Asians and North Africans to
demonstrate against their country and the
President, Goodluck Jonathan.
This scanty Protesters used the banner to
cover their faces and from the picture here,
you will see that those used for this show-
of-shame are not Nigerians.
Surprisingly the branded the Nigerian
President as a dictator. This was the same
President Goodluck Jonathan described by
the opposition as Weak, now he is a
Dictator.
What a contradiction!

Cruel Things Women Do To Men .
Despite being known as the fairer gender, women can be downright nasty and often do cruel things to men.
10. They don’t pick up the phone
While men feel good as they manage to take the girls’ phone number, the girls often give them a fake number or don’t pick up the call.
9. Use men for free drinks
Some women go out never planning to spend any of their own money on drinks at the bar or club. Instead, they count on their feminine wiles to convince guys to shell out for their libations. While some of them might begin to get to know him, the cruel and heartless ones will take that drink, flirt a little and move on.
8. Use men as placeholders
If she is a decent person, she’ll just get it over with and dump the boy, but if she’s cruel, she’ll hold on to him for a while until somebody new comes along. These girls don’t like to be alone and without a relationship, so instead of putting you out of your misery and ending it, she’ll string you along until she meets someone to replace you.
7. Emotionally manipulate men
Men don’t like to see women cry and some cruel women take advantage of the fact and use it to get what they want. A few tears would make men do anything to get it to stop.
6. Use physical violence
While men hitting girls are often termed nasty, some cruel women feel it’s perfectly acceptable to hit their boyfriends, as he would never hit her back. This type of woman feels like she can inflict any kind physical pain on him without fear of repercussion.
5. Criticize their men in public
Cruel women criticize and humiliate their men in public places. They often poke fun at her man or even soundly debase him.
4. They don’t disclose their relationship status
It’s certainly not the worst thing a woman could do to a man, but it is annoying when she’s already in a relationship and lets you assume that she’s available so that she can enjoy the man’s flirtation and flattery.
3. They withhold sex
This is a time-tested, and frequently used, cruel thing for women to do to men. For most men, sex is as important as breathing, so withholding it in order to get something she wants or simply to punish her man for his transgressions is a pretty awful thing to do, even if it is effective.
2. They test their men
You’re all ready to go for a night out with your friends, when your girlfriend calls and asks you to change your plans to be with her instead. She doesn’t have any particular reason; she just wants to see you. She knows that you had plans to meet up with the guys, but if you really loved her, you’d come over to her place instead. If her request comes with an “if you really loved me,” then it’s a test. If you choose anything other than immediately rushing to her side, you’re going to fail. This kind of testing in a relationship is indeed cruel and petty.
1. They flirt to inspire jealousy
Maybe she’s feeling underappreciated, maybe you’ve just had a big fight or maybe she just enjoys the tortured look on your face. For whatever reason, girls who flirt obviously with other guys in front of their boyfriends are immature and manipulative.
