"THE THEATRE OF DREAMS"

Muslims in Kaduna worship with christians in show of unity.

In an unprecedented show of love and
brotherliness, the Muslim community at
Barnawa, Kaduna metropolis, yesterday
worshiped with Christians at Living Faith
Foundation, Chapel of Grace, with a call
on Nigerians to love one another for
peaceful co-existence.
In his address, the Muslims, led by the
District Head, Alhaji Mohammed Kabir
Zubairu said that they decided to worship
with Christians so as to strengthen the
bond of unity among them.
While calling on the government to bring
an end to the persistent violence in some
parts of the country, Zubairu noted that
the church had donated Rams to his
palace during Sallah festivities, adding
that God created both Christianity and
Islam for peace, not violence.
He said: “In my district Barnawa, Muslims
and Christians are all living in peace as
one family. I am a Muslim, but I believe
Allah created Islam and Christianity for
peace, not for crisis. Attending a church
service today with some of my subjects
who are Christians has nothing to affect
my religion, but it will rather strengthen
unity among us.
“This church has been giving us the
biggest rams during Sallah festivities. I
and my cabinet members will continue to
preach peace. My district within Kaduna
metropolis is free of crisis; we are living
in peace with one another.”
In his response, Dr Peter Jiya, who is the
Resident Pastor of Living Faith
Foundation, said the church would
continue to co-habit peacefully with non-
Christians.
Jiya said “Living Faith Foundation believes
in peaceful co-existence. The situation in
the country calls for a lot of co-existence
among different religious groups.
“Today, the District Head of Barnawa
worshipped with us and we appreciate it.
We hope that the whole country will
emulate this gesture and by so doing,
many problems we are facing will be
solved by the grace of God.

Dr. Ben Carson: A Healer Beyond the Operating Room Dr Carson's contribution to Johns Hopkins Hospital has been phenomenal. He has received much recognition for performing and mastering ground-breaking surgical procedures. Dr. Carson uses his dedication and God-given talent to take on seemingly impossible operations, giving children hope for a second chance at a healthy and normal life.

Dr. Carson's modest beginnings are certainly
what make his career success amazing and
almost unfathomable. Born and raised in
inner-city Detroit, Dr. Carson credits his
mother Sonya's influence with much of his
success. She performed domestic work to
keep her family financially afloat. With only a
third grade education herself, Sonya Carson
prayed diligently for wisdom to help Ben and
his older brother Curtis success in school.
Vigorous studying and a thirst for knowledge
enabled young Dr. Carson to graduate from
high school with honors and gain admission
to Yale University where he pursued a
degree in Psychology.  He then went onto
medical school at the University of Michigan,
where his interest shifted from psychiatry to
neurosurgery.
It was then that Dr. Carson realized his ability
to visualize the brain in three dimensions,
excellent hand-eye coordination, and
extensive neurological background were
qualities fitting for a career as a
neurosurgeon. After medical school, Dr.
Carson became a neurosurgery resident at
the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. At
age 33, Dr. Carson became the youngest
physician to ever head a major division at
Johns Hopkins. He is currently the director of
pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins
Medical Institutions, a position he has held
since 1984, and a professor of neurosurgery,
oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatric
medicine.

Facts about the human body.

1. Guess your real age
Human life stared with the production of the egg
that is 0.2mm in diameter, which is equal to a
size of a full stop. The most surprising thing is
that the egg from which you developed was
produced inside your mother when she was
herself an embryo. So consider your existence
even before your mother’s birth. For example, if
your mother conceived you at the age of 25 and
your current age is 20 years than you are
existing since 45 years.
2. Tongue Prints
It’s not just your finger prints that make you
unique from other human but your tongue has
prints too and every individual has a different
tongue print.
3. Skin Shedding
The skin is the largest organ of our body, an
adult man has skin stretched up to 20sq ft.
Humans shed about 1.5 pounds of skin particles
every year that makes 600,000 skin particles
every hour. So by the age of 70 years an average
person will shed up to 105 lb of skin.
4. Babies have more bones than an Adult
It is astonishing but true that a small baby has
more bones than an adult. When we start our
lives as a baby we have 350 bones, these bones
then fuse together when we grow up and in the
end we are left with 206 bones.
Human bones are very strong. A solid piece of
bone relative to a size of a matchbox can support
weight up to 9 tons, that’s 4 times more weight a
block of concrete with the similar size can
support.
5. Renewed Stomach Lining
An interesting fact is that your stomach’s
digestive juices are so strong that it can even
dissolve zinc. Fortunate for us, the stomach
lining is renewed after every 3 to 4 days because
if it wouldn’t the strong acids can digest our
stomach as well. When you blush the stomach
lining also reddens.
6. 25000 quarts of Saliva Production
On average a person produces 25,000 quarts of
saliva in a lifetime. That’s enough to fill 2
swimming pools.
7. Human and chimpanzee has same number of
hair
It would be hard to believe that humans and
chimpanzees have equal number of hair on their
bodies the only difference is that human hair is
so thin and fine that it makes them almost
invisible.
8. Number of Sex cells produced in humans
In females, about ½ a million eggs are produced
on average out of which only 400 would have the
potential to develop into a baby. Men produce
10 million sperms approximately, every day.
They are enough to repopulate the earth in 6
months time.
9. 11 days of sleeplessness can kill you
We all know that we can’t survive without food
and water, but have you ever wondered for how
many days you can live without sleep? You can
survive without sleep for eleven days only, after
that you will fall asleep forever!
Also our height increases up to 8mm while
sleeping. It is assumed that nerds are dreamiest
because people with the higher IQ have a higher
frequency of dreams.
10. Lungs have 300,000,000 million capillaries
There are over 300, 000 million capillaries inside
the lungs, and if you stretch them out end to end
they would cover a distance of 1500 miles that is
equal to the distance from Seattle to San Diego.
11. Blood travels 60,000 miles
Our blood travels a long road. It is said that take
60 seconds for the blood cells to complete their
path. 2,000 gallons of bloods travels a distance of
60,000 miles in the blood vessels. Also with the
gain of every single pound of fat, the traveling
distance increases up to 7 miles.
12. Our nose can identify 50,000 scents
We might not have as sharp sense of smell as a
dog but still our nose can remember 50,000
different scents.
13. Feet can produce a pint of sweat
Did you know that we have 500,000 sweat glands
in our feet which can produce sweat equal to a
pint, every day? That’s enough to fill two glasses.
14. Eyelash mites
At a later age humans can have eyelash invaders
called eyelash mites. These near to transparent
mites can grow up to a size of 1/3rd of a
millimeter. They are usually present at the base
of the eyelash or eyebrow hair and are only
visible under a microscope. Why are they found
inside human eye? These creatures tend to grow
on old skin cells and sebum produced by follicles
of human hair.
15. Blondes have the thickest hair
Blondes have the highest volume of hair out of
all hair colors. The hair color also helps to
determine the thickness of your hair. An average
human has 100,000 hair follicles, where blondes
have 146,000, black haired people have 110,000
and brown haired have 100,000 follicles.
Redheads have the least volume of hair i.e. only
86,000 follicles.
16. Eye movements
The focus muscles of our eyes move 100,000
times in a day, if you compare it to walking it will
make 50 miles. We blink 10,000,000 times in a
year.

[Opinion] Economic History As Against Political ,The Route To Revolution And The Change We Want

Having watched  and observed with raft
attention, the
upheavals,violence,maiming,religious
bigotry that has raised its ugly head at the
2011 post election, which variably or
invariably could be linked to political
desperado’s and underdogs who allegedly
want to use its ugly tool to upset the
peaceful coexistence in the country in
their false claim to indirectly
revolutionalized the country .
Funny enough our directionless leaders
and desperate acclaimed revolutionalist
don’t know our route or history and
therefore don’t know where to take us to,
while it has been evidential that since
independence in 1960 ethnic and
religious violence has raised its ugly head
which could also be assumed to be
masterminded by some inpatriots  from
the troubled region ,but they forgot to
understand the fact that such a tool could
yield or score them low or none political
points ,hence ethnic biases, reprisal
attacks etc abound thereby disunifying
their solidarity from counter or opposite
groups to achieve their selfish  national
desires.
In view of Karl max philosophy and
ideology, it could be understood that he
posited that unemployment, inflation etc
(brain child of economic downturns) is the
bomb politicians and government have
planted  that will destroy and dethrone
them, therefore  it  is in the light of these
that even the deaf and daft  would know
revolution is not miles away, taking
cognizance of our history in 1929 where
the Aba market women took to the
streets to protest the increment of tax
and fees levied on them, the protest and
riot which drew nearer to sacking the
colonial government was marked by
indiscriminate destruction of colonial
governments properties and endangered
the lives of colonial masters ,hence the
colonial masters wasted no time to revise
the tax regime.
Again just on January 2012 the removal of
subsidy mounted pressure on goodluck’s
administration, when Nigerians
persistently and aggressively took to the
streets to protest the against the
removal of fuel subsidy, and even started
calling for the resignation of president
jonathan.The situation which was thought
to have been influenced by the Arab
revolution and Jonathan wasted no time
in reducing the petrol price against his
wish just to restore normalcy and avoid
dethronement.
Categorically economic factors predict our
decisive action, while revolutionist
proponents and activists have failed to
understand the major factor that could
spur it, while the government on its side
has also failed to understand the yawning,
aspirations and value (economic) of the
masses.

2015 Elections: President Jonathan Moves To Control National Youth Council Of Nigeria By Olam

As President Jonathan Plans To Run In
2015, Intriques Emerges As He Moves
To Control The National Youth Council
Of Nigeria, Presidential Aspirants
Accuse Minister Of Youth Of
Lawlesness
For the past days, the Nigeria Governors
Forum Election has been in the fore of
the nation’s politics. Despite high level
intrigues by President Jonathan to stop
Chairman, Governors Forum; Rotimi
Amaechi’s re-election bid, the Governor
seem to have outsmarted the President
and his anointed candidate Governor
Jonah Jang of Plateau State. As a sign that
the Presidency may feel slighted by
Amaechi; who is rumoured to be nursing
a Vice-Presidential ambition in 2015, the
Peoples Democratic Party known for
controversies and disregard for the rule
of law decided to suspend the Rivers
State Governor from the party for a
decision taken by the legislative arm of
his state and Amaechi was deprived of
the opportunity to defend himself. This is
one of the many cases where Nigeria’s
ruling party has demonstrated its
contempt for the rule of law and courts.
More recently, the President Jonathan’s
administration has shifted attention to
the National Youth Council of Nigeria, a
move believed to be aimed at taking
control of all influential groups that can
truncate his bid for re-election in 2015.
The earlier scheduled congress for the
election for the National Youth Council of
Nigeria was to take place in April, 2013 at
Ondo State. Perhaps afraid that the
Presidency’s anointed candidate will be
defeated, the Department of State
Security are alleged to have cancelled the
elections claiming the security situation in
the state is not okay. An aide of Governor
Olusegun Mimiko on Youth Affairs, Mr.
Olamide George, told PUNCH’s
correspondent that the state was acting
on directive from the Federal
Government. The draft constitution of the
Nation’s Youth Council was expected to be
ratified at the congress but the Federal
Government through the Hon Minister of
Youth Development began
implementation of the unratified
constitution and allegedly insisted that
the congress must be moved to a PDP
state. Benue was chosen and some
aspirants immediately secured a Federal
High Court ruling, Lagos from Justice
Abang which directed that status quo
should be maintained with respect to the
notice of congress published on some
national dailies till hearing on the 11th of
June, 2013. It was revealed that the Hon
Minister of Youth Development,  Inuwa
Abdul-Kadir, Esq despite being served
with the court order went ahead to
disobey it. This is most regrettable
because the Hon Minsister of Youth Dev.
is not only a learned fellow but a former
Attorney General of Sokoto State. In a
message sent to delegates of the Youth
Council, Hon. (Chief) Mrs Elizabeth Ativie
on behalf of other members of the
incorporated Board of Trustee of the
Youth Council directed that congress
should be called off to obey the Federal
High Court ruling. Sources further
explained that the illegal congress at
Benue State was eventually suspended to
forestall breakdown of law and order and
court contempt but soon after security
agencies and delegates had departed, the
Honourable Minister of Youth began
writing names of selected government
candidates as winners of an election that
did not hold. A source accused President
Jonathan, National PDP Chairman and
current FERMA Chairman of being
desperate to foist what the source called
“a PDP candidate” on the Youth Council of
Nigeria. Chairman of FERMA, Engr Olajide
Adeniji is believed to be bankrolling this
effort with the money meant to repair
Nigeria’s roads while Mr Inuwa Abdul-
Kadir is accused of playing this script as
he has been promised a PDP
Governorship Ticket for his state in 2015.
President Jonathan is facing serious
opposition to his widely speculated re-
election bid in 2015. Many Nigerians are
unsatisfied with the progress of the
nation as unemployment seem to be
increasing by the day. The President is
alleged to be troubled by the new merger
of major opposition parties into the All
Progressives Congress and is aware that
the PDP chances are getting slimmer by
the day. His strategists believe that just
like the Governors Forum, the National
Youth Council may turn against the
President in 2015. The President’s
supporters argue that the incumbent
President of the National Youth council,
Wale Ajani who is seeking re-election
made the first effort to oppose the
President’s fuel subsidy removal in a
hunger strike protest at Abuja which led
to his arrest by officials of the
Department of State Security.  The
eventual fuel subsidy protest became one
of Nigeria’s biggest anti-government
movements and only ended after soldiers
were unleashed on protesters in what the
government feared may degenerate into
a violent revolution. President Jonathan
therefore seems to be particular on the
candidate that emerges as the number
one Youth in Nigeria. Fair enough, but the
President and his agents must do so fairly
and legally.
State owned media outfit Nigeria
Television Authority (NTA) reportedly
announced an unknown Shendam Yakubu
as the new President on the directive of
the Youth Minister despite the fact that
no election was held. Just like Governor
Jang, Shendam Yakubu is also from
Plateau State. Yakubu is reported to have
been a member of President Jonathan’s
Neighbour 2 Neighbour Campaign and is
seen as a loyalist to the President. A
telephone chat with one of the
Presidential Aspirants of the National
Youth Council, Phillip Jwan who is also
from Plateau state insisted that: “There
was no election”. He noted that Youths do
not recognize him (Shendam Yakubu) and
his integrity is questionable. An obviously
angry Jwan said that such imposition
without an election is unprecedented in
the history of the council and that: “We
will not be intimated or coerced by the
Federal Government”. He believes that
the office of the President is too high and
should not be brought to such ridicule. He
warned that the youth of Nigeria will
resist such illegality to the drop of their
blood. When contacted, the incumbent
President of the Council and an aspirant
seeking election believed that there was
desperate effort by high ranking Federal
Government officials to embarrass the
President, over heat the polity and
plunge the nation into further crises. He
urged President Jonathan to call the
Minister of Youth Development to order
and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
Another Presidential Aspirant from North
Central (Kogi), Tosin Adeyanju revealed
that Shendam Yakubu is not even a
member of the National Youth Council
and affirmed no election actually held. He
disclosed that all Presidential Aspirants
will be giving a World Press Conference
tomorrow (Wednesday, 29th May, 2013)
and that the legal elections will take place
within 90 days from today (Tuesday, 28th
May). A Presidential aspirant from the
South East, Emeka Ikpegbu described the
situation as “a r*pe on democracy by the
Minister of Youths”. He said no elections
were held and this was “an aberration of
the highest order and an insult to good
consciences”. He lamented that the
Minister of Youth instructed his staff to go
on air (NTA) to announce an illegality. He
insisted that the President should
immediately remove the Youth Minister
as he is planning to plunge the nation into
crises with youth protests across the
country.

How Training Your Brain Can Make You Significantly Smart.

As many people hit middle age, they
often start to notice that their memory
and mental clarity are not what they used
to be.  We suddenly can’t remember
where we put the keys just a moment
ago, or an old acquaintance’s name, or the
name of an old band we used to love.  As
the brain fades, we euphemistically refer
to these occurrences as “senior
moments.”
While seemingly innocent, this loss of
mental focus can potentially have a
detrimental impact on our professional,
social, and personal well-being.
It happens to most of us, but is it
inevitable?
Neuroscientists are increasingly showing
that there’s actually a lot that can be
done.  It turns that the brain needs
exercise in much the same way our
muscles do, and the right mental
workouts can significantly improve our
basic cognitive functions.  Thinking is
essentially a process of making neural
connections in the brain.  To a certain
extent, our ability to excel in making the
neural connections that drive intelligence
is inherited.  However, because these
connections are made through effort and
practice, scientists believe that
intelligence can expand and fluctuate
according to mental effort.
Now, a new San Francisco Web-based
company has taken it a step further and
developed the first “brain training
program” designed to actually help
people improve and regain their mental
sharpness.  Called Lumosity, it was
designed by some of the leading experts
in neuroscience and cognitive psychology
from Stanford University.
Lumosity, is far more than an online
place to exercise your mental skills.
That’s because they have integrated these
exercises into a Web-based program that
allows you to systematically improve your
memory and attention skills.  The
program keeps track of your progress and
provides detailed feedback on your
performance and improvement.  Most
importantly, it constantly modifies and
enhances the games you play to build on
the strengths you are developing–much
like an effective exercise routine requires
you to increase resistance and vary your
muscle use.
Does it work?
Apparently it does. In randomized,
controlled clinical trials, Lumosity was
shown to significantly improve basic
cognitive functions. One study showed
students improved their scores on math
tests by 34 percent after using Lumosity
for six weeks, significantly greater gains
than those made by other students in the
same class, who were not training with
the Lumosity program.
The company says its users have reported
clearer and quicker thinking, improved
memory for names, numbers, directions,
increased alertness and awareness,
elevated mood, and better concentration
at work or while driving.
While many of the games at Lumosity are
free, a modest subscription fee is
required to use the full program over the
long term.
However, Lumosity is currently offering
a free trial of their program to new users
so that you can see how well it works
before you decide to subscribe.  The trial
is completely free (no credit card
required) and the company believes the
results will speak for themselves.

7 Things You Can’t Talk About in China

The current situation of Ideological Front,’ the report urges cadres
to stop universities and media
organizations from talking about a wide
range of political ideas. In fact, the
banned topics cover a variety of subjects
that have been openly discussed in
Chinese universities and publications for
years.
If implemented, the bans would deeply
call into question the sincerity of General
Secretary Xi Jinping’s self-styled image as
a reformer.
Professors and activists blasted the so-
called ’7 speak-nots’ after Zhang Xuezhong
of the East China University of Political
Science and Law posted them on his
website. Censors quickly deleted Zhang’s
post and censored all discussion of the ’7
speak-nots’ on social media.
The bans came amid a revival of hardliner
attacks on constitutionalism in China, and
the shutdown of blogs belonging to
several popular, prominent writers. Last
week, four blogs belonging to writer
Murong Xuecun, including an account with
14 million followers, were shuttered,
sending a chilling message to even
mainstream critics of the government.
So, what are these deadly topics that
could land you in trouble? Below, a guide
to what’s banned, and what they reveal
about the deepest fears of Beijing and
the Communist Party.
“Universal values”
The phrase “universal values” usually
connotes something straightforwardly
positive, if rarely achieved: freedom,
equality, human rights. But to the CCP, it’s
treated like a subversive threat. State-run
media frequently blast universal values as
a front to weaken China and maintain US
power. “A glaring mistake of the West is
the unilateral imposition of the so-called
universal values on China for self-serving
political, economic, and cultural
purposes,” a China Daily editorial said in
2010.
The phrase is fairly new in Chinese
political debates, dating back to around
2008, when liberal intellectuals such as
Nobel laureate Liu Xiabao drafted
“Charter 08,” a document calling for
Beijing to uphold
“universal common values” and move
toward democracy.
“Freedom of speech”
In keeping with its Leninist heritage, the
CCP sees control of public discourse —
particularly the media — as crucial to its
hold on power. But the spread of social
media has radically undermined Party
control, and the press has begun to show
more independence in speaking out.
In recent years crusading journalists at
publications like Caixin and Southern
Weekend have shown remarkable bravery
and independence. Earlier this year, when
Southern Weekend’s New Year’s editorial
was re-written by propaganda officials,
journalists went on strike in protest.
Now, even talking about the possibility of
free spech is a no-no.
“Civil society”
This banned topic seems particularly odd:
what does the CCP have to fear from “civil
society,” meaning community groups and
non-governmental organizations? Well,
from the Party’s perspective, any
organization — whether a student
association or a spiritual exercise group
— that’s not controlled by the CCP is
potentially a threat.
“Civil rights”
No surprise here. Given that the
government regularly jails and
relentlessly harrasses lawyers who
defend the legal rights of petitioners,
peasants and women forced to have
abortions, there is no doubt that
individual rights are a taboo subject.
“The historical errors of the Chinese
Communist Party”
For years, the CCP has tried to enforce
selective historical amnesia, teaching
students about the suffering of China
under Western colonial powers in the
19th century, but skimming over many of
the country’s worst 20th century traumas,
which were caused by CCP misrule: the
Great Leap Forward, which killed up to 45
million; the Cultural Revolution, which
ripped apart families and killed several
million more; and the Tiananman Square
Massacre, which left perhaps thousands of
students dead in the capital, and set back
political reform by a generation. Some
believe that talking about these events
would allow the wounds to heal; the Party
thinks that suppression is the only option.
“Crony capitalism”
Over the last year, few things have
infuriated Beijing as much as the
Bloomberg and New York Times reports
about the immense wealth amassed by
China’s supposedly socialist leaders. The
reason for this is obvious: the CCP
justifies its rule by pointing to China’s
incredible economic growth. If Chinese
people begin to believe that Party
officials and their friends have been
pocketing too much of the profits, the
CCP’s credibility frays. Beijing knows very
well that social inequality is one of the
gravest problems it now has to tackle, but
it would prefer that talk of corruption
stay out of the spotlight.
“Judicial independence”
In China, some 99 percent of criminal
cases brought to trial end in conviction.
As with the media, the CCP sees the
courts as an arm of its control. In 2007, a
Chinese legal official said that “the power
of the courts to adjudicate independently
doesn’t mean at all independence from
the Party. It is the opposite, the
embodiment of a high degree of
responsibility vis-à-vis Party
undertakings.”
In fact, high-ranking Party officials
accused of crimes often do not enter the
civilian judicial system at all: they are
dealt with by internal disciplinary
committees called “shanggui.”
Nevertheless, judicial independence has
become an important issue for many
professors and intellectuals. Earlier this
year, after Xi Jinping’s rise to power, law
experts at the Beijing Institute of
Technology released a report arguing that
it “is not a matter of being capitalist or
socialist, and socialism should not exclude
judicial independence.”
At the time, Xi Jinping also supported
such calls. Now, especially amid a state-
media backlash against constitutionalism,
it is not clear where he stands on reform.

ein – “The monotony of a quiet life."

Some of us, like me, thrive on drivenness. I get a
kick out of immersing myself in a project,
experiencing energy surges, performance highs, and
the sense of achievement thereafter. And then I go
for the next…
I often forget to create space to collect myself, to
center myself. to calibrate myself…That could be the
reason why I sometimes feel a depletion of
creativity and enchantment in my work. I am
reminded that while one can produce work
effectively, if unchecked and uninspired, can be a
work that is ‘soul-less’.
This weekend, let’s take time out to still our hearts,
rest our souls, renew our mind with quiet
circumspect. 30mins is all we need. But it has to be
an undistracted, uninterrupted 30mins. Free your
mind of cares and pre-occupations. Sensitize
yourself to your inner world. Close your eyes, take
deep oxygen-filled life-giving breaths. And allow yourself to rest

5 Ways To Increase Your Intelligence.

1. Minimize Television Watching – This is a hard
sell. People love vegetating in front of the television,
myself included more often than I’d like. The
problem is watching television doesn’t use your
mental capacity OR allow it to recharge. It’s like
having the energy sapped out of a muscle without the
health benefits of exercise.
Don’t you feel drained after a couple hours of TV?
Your eyes are sore and tired from being focused on
the light box for so long. You don’t even have the
energy to read a book.
When you feel like relaxing, try reading a book
instead. If you’re too tired, listen to some music.
When you’re with your friends or family, leave the
tube off and have a conversation. All of these things
use your mind more than television and allow you to
relax.
2. Exercise – I used to think that I’d learn more by
not exercising and using the time to read a book
instead. But I realized that time spent exercising
always leads to greater learning because it improves
productivity during the time afterwards. Using
your body clears your head and creates a wave of
energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can
concentrate more easily.
3. Read Challenging Books – Many people like to
read popular suspense fiction, but generally these
books aren’t mentally stimulating. If you want to
improve your thinking and writing ability you should
read books that make you focus. Reading a classic
novel can change your view of the world and will
make you think in more precise, elegant English.
Don’t be afraid to look up a word if you don’t know
it, and don’t be afraid of dense passages. Take your
time, re-read when necessary, and you’ll soon grow
accustomed to the author’s style.
Once you get used to reading challenging books, I
think you’ll find that you aren’t tempted to go back to
page-turners. The challenge of learning new ideas is
far more exciting than any tacky suspense-thriller.
4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Nothing makes it
harder to concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be
most rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don’t
sleep more than 8 hours. If you stay up late and
compensate by sleeping late, you’ll wake up lethargic
and have trouble focusing. In my experience the
early morning hours are the most tranquil and
productive. Waking up early gives you more
productive hours and maximizes your mental acuity
all day.
If you have the opportunity, take 10-20 minute naps
when you are hit with a wave of drowsiness.
Anything longer will make you lethargic, but a short
nap will refresh you.
5. Take Time to Reflect – Often our lives get so
hectic that we become overwhelmed without even
realizing it. It becomes difficult to concentrate
because nagging thoughts keep interrupting. Spending
some time alone in reflection gives you a chance
organize your thoughts and prioritize your
responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better
understanding of what’s important and what isn’t.
The unimportant stuff won’t bother you anymore and
your mind will feel less encumbered ,

BEN CARSON

Well before Dr. Benjamin Carson ever set foot at the podium to face the audience at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. on Feb. 7, the renowned neurosurgeon was already a brand on his own in the field of medicine.

Ben carson
Ben carson
In 1987, he became the first surgeon to
successfully separate conjoined twins and
stamped his place in medical history. When his
biography, Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson
Story was subsequently published in 1990, the
Christian doctor who rejects the theory
of evolution became a global inspiration.
His story of triumph over crushing poverty in
Detroit to become the director of pediatric
neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in
Baltimore, Md., at the age of 33 became a well-
known and compelling narrative. And the doctor
has been speaking and inspiring with his
message of personal responsibility, moral
integrity and discipline ever since.
From a passion wrought out of his personal
experience with education, Carson and his wife,
who have three adult sons, also decided to start
the Carson Scholars Fund sixteen years ago. The
Fund, according to Carson, celebrates and
supports the achievements of “intellectual
superstars” in schools across America.
But on Feb. 7, when Carson hit the podium,
America heard his thoughts on something else –
government. The neurosurgeon surprised the
audience, which included President Barack
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, with his
thoughts on government policy in areas such as
taxation, education and debt management.
Now, with a growing chorus of social
conservatives clamoring for him to run for
president, everyone wants to know, who is
Benjamin Carson?
“We don’t know much about Ben Carson except
for his personal biography,” said noted Columbia
University political scientist, Fredrick Harris in an
interview with the Christian Post on Tuesday.
Those who know Carson or are familiar with him
will only talk about Benjamin Carson the man,
not his politics.
“I don’t know him more than anybody else. I
know of his good deeds. He is a good man as far
as I know,” said Dr. Franklin W. Knight, Leonard
and Helen R Stulman Professor of history and
director of the Center of Africana Studies at
Johns Hopkins.
“One of the things that we are committed to
here at Spencerville is that we guard Dr. Carson’s
privacy very much,” said Patrick Morrison,
associate pastor at the Spencerville Seventh Day
Adventist Church in Maryland, where Carson is a
member. He would only say that Carson, who
also sits on the board of several for-profit
companies like The Kellogg Company and Costco
Wholesale Corporation, is an active member of
the church. He attends services regularly and
teaches a class as well.
“He is quiet and humble. He is a man of faith and
a man of integrity,” said Morrison of Carson. And
that’s the mantra repeated by almost everyone
who knows him… WHAT WILL PEOPLE REMEMBER YOU FOR? (Food for thought)

PDP To Sanction Governors For Not Recognising Jang As NGF Chairman

Fresh facts have emerged that the presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are marshalling out plans to “deal” with some governors elected on the party’s platform from the north for failing to recognise the Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang who is leading a faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

Specifically, it was gathered that the first target among the northern PDP governors to be dealt with might be the Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu. Others include the governors of Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

According to a source, “There are efforts to remove Aliyu as the chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum if he fails to recognise Governor Jang as the chairman of the forum.”

He said three governors from the north who remain loyal to the president are the arrowheads of the plot, adding that a meeting of the northern governors has been scheduled to hold on Thursday, June 6, where they may move against Aliyu. It was also gathered that “Abuja hawks” have commenced intense lobbying of members of the Niger State House of Assembly to impeach the governor.

A source said the legislators are being lobbied to move against the governor and to effect his ouster in a campaign bankrolled by people based in Abuja. Each member, according to the source, is being promised huge sums of money to sign on to the plot. The source also said a plan to precipitate a crisis of epic proportions, with the aim of destabilising the state and seizing control of the party’s structures from Aliyu is being engineered. He said top members of the PDP from Niger State are the linchpins behind the plot. The PDP members are alleged to be working in collusion with top politicians from the Nupe tribe, who constitute the majority in the state.

In order to incentivize them, politicians of Nupe origin have been promised that the governorship of the state would return to their zone. Niger State has a zoning arrangement which took the governorship slot to Zone C (Kontagora Zone) in 1999, after which Aliyu, who is from Zone B (Minna Zone), took over and will serve out his two terms by 2015. The calculation is that Zone A (Nupe Zone) should produce the next governor of the state.

This has to do with the fact that some of the governors who will be finishing their tenures in 2015, nurse political ambitions to contest for either the presidency or the senate.

According to the governor from the North-west zone, “Immediately Chief Anenih made that comment, we commenced consultations, but the more we speak among ourselves, the more we are thrown into confusion over what to do.” He said further: “Most PDP governors who are not on the side of the president still hold the strong view that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not an option.” APC is the proposed coalition of major opposition parties in the country comprising the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He added: “By the time we leave PDP to join APC, the party structures would have been formed; already the sharing formula would have been agreed on, and any party you join and you don’t have your people in the party structure, then you are not a senior member.” The governor said his colleagues who might want to leave the party were sceptical of the national leader of the ACN, Senator Bola Asiwaju, his antics and domineering style, especially what he described as “Tinubu’s use and dump” tactics. Citing the example of the former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, and Nuhu Ribadu, whom the former Lagos State governor dumped at the last minute in 2011 to support Jonathan, he said these actions were consistent and were of major concern for the PDP governors.

The governor said that the PDP governors in question are also worried of the autocratic nature of the leader of the CPC, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, his military background and hardline posture. It was for this reason that the governor said: “The option in this regard for the aggrieved PDP governors, senators and members of the House of the Representatives is to move to another party or form a new one. According to him, “If our fears are not addressed both in the PDP and the merging APC, we are going to leave to a new party where we will present a credible candidate that both PDP and APC would lack. “By this action, there won’t be a party with a majority in the National Assembly and the governors will be shared among three major parties. “This is the game plan for some of us considered to be against President Jonathan’s re-election bid. Our plan is to ensure that three major parties contest the 2015 presidential election.” He said even if a presidential primary were to hold for the 2015 election, it is certain that most of the delegates from the North-central, North-west and North-east zones will vote for Jonathan. “In view of this,” the governor said, “It is sure that the PDP ticket is not up for grabs, so it will be better for governors who are not on the president’s side to look elsewhere as a platform.”

Meanwhile, PDP Democrats, a group which has been championing the right of first refusal for the president during the 2015 PDP presidential primary, has commended Anenih for supporting its position that there should be no presidential primary, rather an affirmation of the presidential primary convention. In a statement signed by Elvis Agukwe Max Gbanite, Coordinator of the PDP Democrats, the group said: “We thank our great BoT chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, for recognising, and supporting our earlier position that our great party must be united as one before the general election; that our party must be devoid of rancour, enmity, in-fighting before a general election; and that our party must galvanise its strength, and mobilise support for a rancour-free affirmative presidential primary. “Therefore we identify with Chief Anenih’s statement that our party should evolve a new system of producing our flag bearers, that will preserve the unity. Therefore, the president and governors seeking second term should be given automatic ticket.” Also, the ruling PDP yesterday expressed confidence in its capacity to win the presidential election and more governorship elections in 2015.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, the party also dispelled fears that divergence of views and opinions among its members were capable of weakening it ahead of 2015. Instead, it said these divergent views were a reflection of its democratic stance where all members have the opportunity to air their views and to freely canvass their opinions unlike what obtains in the opposition parties where opinions and views of members are muzzled by political godfathers. PDP also dismissed and described as “shadow chasing and day dreaming”, boasts by the leaders of the yet-to-be-registered opposition APC, that it would take over government in 2015.

The party said power lies only with the people and not in the hands of - few desperate individuals. It said the opposition alliance would soon be in disarray, adding that most of those in the ranks would be betrayed and victimised by the godfathers who see the coalition as their personal estate. Metuh said the PDP welcomes the opposition to the electoral contest in 2015 but noted that they were already doomed to fail as Nigerians have since realised that they are merely “strange bed fellows” who have nothing to offer but are united by bitterness, frustration, religious and tribal sentiments. “We welcome the opposition to the contest. However, they are already doomed for failure because Nigerians have since realised their undemocratic tendencies and desperation for power for selfish reasons. “Nigerians know that they are merely strange bed fellows who are united by bitterness, frustration and religious and tribal sentiments and not for the national interest. “They have continued to betray their lust and inner disposition by their utterances in seeking to ‘seize power’ which has remained their only agenda. “They fail to understand that in a democracy, power is not to be seized. It is conferred by the people and this is the reason the people have continued to identify with the PDP. “The PDP believes in the people. No individual, group or tribe owns the PDP. It belongs to all Nigerians.

The PDP is a big family, united in freedom. “In a family there are bound to be divergence of opinions and views and this occurs where people are free. What outsiders see as internal disagreements is actually a reflection of the democratic stance of the PDP. “The PDP is the only party where people are absolutely free to express their views and freely canvass their opinions unlike in the opposition parties where the views and opinions of members are muzzled by their godfathers,” he said. Stating that the merger of the opposition parties was a positive factor for it, the PDP said it had also shown that the parties are essentially weak and would not be able to grapple with the huge responsibility of managing a big party. “We challenge the opposition also to be bold enough to hold primaries when the time comes. Many of those singing praises of the alliance will be betrayed and victimised by the godfathers and it will dawn on them that they have been deceived,” the statement said.

Dangote Is Africa's First $20 Billion Man, Now 25th World Richest!

Nigerian billionaire and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has become the first African entrepreneur to lay claim to a $20 billion fortune as the stock value of his largest holding, Dangote Cement, leaped just about three-fourths since March when Forbes released its annual ranking of the world’s richest people

Aliko Dangote’s 93% stake in the cement company is now worth $19.5 billion.

Add this to his controlling stakes in other publicly-listed companies like Dangote Sugar and National Salt Company of Nigeria and his significant shareholdings in other blue-chips like Zenith Bank, UBA Group and Dangote Flour; his extensive real estate portfolio, jets, yachts and current cash position, which includes more than $300 million in recently awarded Dangote Cement dividends, Dangote is now worth more than $20 billion.

Put into context, the Nigerian billionaire is now among the top 25 richest people in the world, richer than Russia’s richest man, Alisher Usmanov, richer than India’s Lakshmi Mittal and running neck and neck with India’s Mukesh Ambani. He is catching up to such Americans as Google’s billionaire founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

The unprecedented surge in Dangote Cement’s share price is largely a market response to the company’s impressive 2013 Q1 results.

The cement manufacturer’s unaudited results for the three months ending March 31 showed that the company’s pre-tax profit rose to $339 million, representing an 80.6% increase from last year and a strong indicator of the company’s future earning potential. The results also indicate a 79.5 % rise in its earnings per share over the corresponding period last year.

Explaining the company’s share price boost in an email to Forbes, Carl Franklin, Dangote Cement’s Head of Investor Relations in the U.K said that in the first quarter of 2013, the company had a huge increase in demand across Nigeria, gas supply improved considerably and the capacity was much more ramped up.

“So Q1 was the first sign of just how profitable we can be in Nigeria. The amazing thing is that 66% of our gas-fired production in Q1 was done at 84% gas. Imagine what would happen to margins if we did the same amount at 95%. This has given investors a good sense of what we can really do when everything goes in the right direction,” Franklin said.

With a current market cap of $20.5 billion, Dangote Cement becomes the first Nigerian company to achieve a market capitalization of over $20 billion.

“It’s certainly a landmark for a Nigerian company and we’re proud to be the first to achieve it. Obviously we are focusing on building long-term and sustainable value for shareholders through our investments in Nigeria and Africa. Nigeria is a very entrepreneurial country and I can assure you that other companies will follow us in achieving this.”

Other companies might eventually achieve this, but it’s going to take a bit of time. Dangote Cement currently accounts for more than a quarter of the total market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The second largest company on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is currently Nigerian Breweries, West Africa’s largest manufacturer of Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The company has a market cap of $8.5 billion.

Dangote debuted on the FORBES billionaires list in 2008 with a fortune we pegged at $3.3 billion. His fortune dropped to $2.5 billion in 2009 and plunged further to $2.1 billion in 2010. His fortune surged  557% in 2011 to $13.8 billion after he took Dangote Cement public. He dropped to $11.2 billion in last year’s rankings, but rebounded at $16.1 billion this year. Since March, his fortune has jumped another 30%.

Dangote was destined to shine in business. At age 8, he apparently gave packets of sweets he had made to the house servants to sell for him. His father Mohammed Dangote was a successful businessman and an associate of his maternal uncle Alhaji Sanusi Dantata. Dantata and his brother controlled the trade in kola nuts and livestock conducted by 200 agents. Dangote started building his fortune over three decades ago after taking a loan from Sanusi Dantata. He started trading in commodities like flour, sugar and cement.

He became a billionaire by later manufacturing these items. He started making pasta, salt, sugar and flour in 1997. But he found his gold mine in cement, when he was awarded a government’s state owned cement business in 2000 and began building his own plant in 2003. He listed Dangote Cement in 2010.

Today, it is Africa’s largest cement company providing cement to Nigeria and other African countries that otherwise would likely have to pay to import much of the materials.

Dangote still likely has bigger ambitions. He told Forbes Wealth Editor Luisa Kroll at Davos in 2011 that he expected his firm to have a market cap of $60 billion within five years. At $20.5 billion, Dangote Cement still has a long way to go to live up to that dream, and while it is quite unlikely that Dangote Cement could hit a $60 billion Market Cap by 2016, don’t write it off as ‘impossible’. With Dangote, you never know.

When America Proved that Anything is Possible

It was one of those moments in American history that the people who were able to watch it for the first time felt like they were in a science fiction movie.  But with televisions cameras on every move, the nation and the world watched on July 20, 1969 as three American astronauts landed on the moon.

The project had been in the works for years to be sure.  You have to wonder with the phenomenal amount of work, expert engineering and the amazing genius that created the rocket ships and everything that would be needed to make the flight possible, if even those in NASA sat in mute wonder and had goosebumps when “Buzz” Aldren was the first man in history to put his foot on another world and pronounce those famous words –

“That's one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.”

That phrase, which itself was carefully prepared, has a lot of wisdom in it.  Sure, touching another world for the first time in human history was a tremendous accomplishment for America.  But more than that, it signaled a new era for humankind everywhere.  All of a sudden, the moon wasn’t a far away myth, full of mystery and magic.  All of a sudden, people everywhere felt like they too could touch the stars if they put out their best efforts too.

It was also a huge moment for the unity of all people.  Few things cause the world population to come together and link arms and be one people, not separate countries.  Most of the time, it’s a terrible global disaster that makes us all bond together.  But this time was different.  This time is was a moment so phenomenal that everybody stopped and watched and everybody knew that this was not just a great accomplishment for three astronauts and scientists that put them there.  This was a great accomplishment for mankind.

American history is populated with tremendous events, both bad and good.  But it’s worth a moment to sit back and reflect on what the first moon landing meant and continues to mean for Americans and the American spirit.  You have to wonder if any other nation would have had the ability, the creative powers, the powerful minds and the collective will to see this kind of amazing accomplishment through to success.

It’s even more amazing when you remember that just a few years earlier, on September 12, 1962 that President Kennedy challenged American to rise to this challenge in a speech at Rice University.  It takes a lot to make something as historic and earth shaking as landing on the moon a reality and visionary leadership such as Kennedy showed that day was a big part of why this landing made history.

This amazing achievement points out something outstanding about the American spirit.  Americans are a people who dream big.  And to land a man on the moon took big dreams.  But we didn’t just dream to put a man up there, it was not acceptable unless we got everybody home safely as well.
For the most part the American space program has had a phenomenal history of success in breaking through barriers that nobody had every done before.  Yes, there have been set backs and tragedies along the way.  But Americans are not quitters and through all the struggles we face, we face them together.  But we never forget to look up at the stars and dream of the day that yet again we see an American set foot on another world and plant out flag in that soil to be signal forever that America was here!

YOGA....An All-Around Yoga Exercise

An All-Around Yoga Exercise: 12-Step Salute to the Sun

One of the all-around yoga exercises is the 12-step salute to the sun. Do it once or twice when you get up in the morning to help relieve stiffness and invigorate the body. Multiple repetitions at night will help you to relax; insomniacs often find that six to 12 rounds help them fall asleep.

1. Stand with your feet slightly apart, palms together, thumbs against your chest.

2. Inhale deeply while slowly raising your hands over your head, and bend back as far as possible, while tightening your buttocks. Hold for three seconds.

3. Slowly exhale and bend forward, keeping your knees straight, until your fingers touch the floor outside your feet. (If you can't touch the floor, go as close as you can.) Bring your head in toward your knees.

4. Slowly inhale, bend your knees, and if your fingertips aren't outside your feet on the floor, place them there. Slide your right foot back as far as you can go, with the right knee an inch or so off the floor, (a lunge position). Now look up as high as possible, arching your back.

5. Before exhaling again, slide your left foot back until it is beside the right one, and with your weight supported on your palms and toes, straighten both legs so that your body forms a flat plane. Make sure your stomach is pulled in.

6. Slowly exhale, bend both knees to the floor, bend with your hips in the air, lower your chest and forehead to the floor.

7. Now inhale slowly and look up, bending your head back, then raising it, followed by your upper chest, then lower chest. Your lower body - from the navel down - should be on the floor, and your elbows should be slightly bent. Hold for three to five seconds.

8. Exhale slowly and raise your hips until your feet and palms are flat on the floor and your arms and legs are straight in an inverted V position.

9. Inhale slowly and bring your right foot forward as in position 4. The foot should be flat on the floor between your fingertips. The left leg should be almost straight behind you, with its knee slightly off the floor. Raise your head, look up, and arch your back.

10. Slowly exhale and bring your left foot forward next to your right one. Straighten your legs and stand, trying to keep your fingertips on the floor, and try to touch your head to your knees as in position 3.

11. Slowly inhale, raise your arms up and stretch back as in position 2. Don't forget to tighten your buttocks. Hold for three seconds.

12. Slowly exhale, lowering your arms to your sides. Relax. Repeat the series.

Oshiomole denies recieving 500 million for campaigns from Amaechi........a must read

oshiomhole_969270220Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has dismissed claims that Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State’s political travails was connected to the N500 million he allegedly donated towards his re-election.
It was reported in one of the national dailies that Amaechi’s travails may not be unconnected with his alleged donation of N500 million to Oshiomhole for his second term campaigns but in a press release signed by his Special Adviser (Media), Mr. Kassim Afegbua, Friday, and made available to newsmen in Benin City, Oshiomhole emphatically stated that at no time did Amaechi donate any money to his second term campaign funds.
According to him, “We had thought of ignoring this so-called allegation as another spurious, very ridiculous and roguish claim by an unnamed PDP chieftain, but for the sake of history and posterity, it is instructive to state that there was no time the Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi donated any money, let alone the sum of N500 million either directly or by proxy, to the campaign funds of the Comrade Governor, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole.
“Again, we wish to state unequivocally that there was no time that the Rivers State Governor spent two nights in Benin City before, during and after the campaigns of the Comrade Governor.
“We find it utterly misleading for anyone to deliberately raise unverifiable claims just to give the Rivers State Governor a bad name and portray the Edo State Governor in bad light with respect to campaign funds and management of same.
“The relevant provisions of the Electoral Act 2006 [as amended] frown at such bogus donations by either an individual or corporate body for the campaign of any individual candidate running for election. In fact, if anyone is in the breach of such provisions, it is the PDP. The Oshiomhole Campaign Organisation was very conscious of the requirement of the law with respect to donation, reason why it embarked on public fund raising dinners in Lagos, Abuja and Benin City. All those who made donations to the second term campaign of the performing Governor Oshiomhole were well captured in our reports and duly appreciated. There was no where that the Rivers State Governor was captured as having donated, let alone such a whooping sum of N500m.”
Furthermore, he pointed out that for “a country and a democracy such as ours, there should be no crime for any governor to honour the invitation of his colleague’s second term inauguration, especially that of the duly elected Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, because the beauty of democracy and credible elections was the exhibition of the spirit of sportsmanship by the loser and his party, and not this invidious show of hostility by the opposition PDP.
“When Governor Oshiomhole earlier referred to the PDP as a Party of rogues, the party went for his jugular by calling him unprintable names and churning out all manners of lies and concocted tales just to make an impression. With the recent outcome of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum election, which returned Governor Amaechi as duly elected, and following the u-turn of those who participated in the exercise, the Comrade Governor’s roguish description of the PDP has become instructively appropriate. It is better for the PDP to look for other reasons why it has wrongly taken certain actions against one of its own, than looking for convenient ways to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. It is shameful that governors, who claim to be duly elected representatives of their States could lower the bar of credibility and integrity just for the sake of dubious politics,” Afegbua said.

87 Lawyers, 10 SANs Rise To Defend Melaye Over Libel Suit

Dino MelayeAt least 87 civil rights lawyers and 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, have indicated interest to render free legal services to the former member of the House of Representatives, Otunba Dino Melaye, over the libel suit instituted against him by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN.
According to the lawyers, their services fall under pro bono services to tackle the 11-man legal team raised by the AGF in the N10.2 billion suit slammed on Melaye who is the Executive Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Network at an Abuja High Court.
Melaye however told Journalists that neither himself nor the anti-graft group had been served the court notice.
“It shows that those in the legal profession have recognized the abuse of office and flagrant disregard for the rule of law by the AGF. Many of the lawyers complained of the conduct of the AGF and have vowed to furnish this case with additional information and obvious cases of abuse of office by Adoke.
“The bastardization, monetization and commercialization of the legal profession must stop. Conflict of interest must become history. Public interest must be placed above selfish or personal interest in the discharge of official responsibilities in the office of the AGF. The battle to salvage our country from all forms of abuse of office is a battle of no retreat, no surrender,” Melaye said.
The Anti-corruption Network had in a petition to President Goodluck Jonathan on April 11, 2013, accused the AGF of corruption and “outrageous use of powers against public interest,” which made the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar to order for investigations into the matter on the orders of the presidency.
One of the 87 lawyers ready to defend Melaye, Mr. Sikiru Akinrele, who practices at the Chambers of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, said he would defend Melaye provided he has his facts.
“The justice system should encourage free legal services. If Dino (Melaye) has his facts, I will defend him in court or advise him accordingly. I want to encourage him to do what is right, even if he is standing alone; he will know that some people appreciate him.
“Melaye should be heard on the merit without being hampered with finance. Remember that Nigerians (lawyers and Judges inclusive) rallied round Chief Gani Fawehinmi when his chambers was to be sold for a judgment debt that the whole world decried,” Akinrele said.

Opon Imo Launched By Osun Today

The tablets will be distributed among students of Senior Secondary School (SSS) classes in public secondary schools in the state.

Built to improve learning among secondary school students in the state and to further prepare them for external and internal examinations, the tablets, designed in the form of a mini iPad, would be distributed to the students free-of-charge.

According to the deputy governor, who doubles as the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Titilayo Laoye-Tomori,  the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led government was determined to ensure that students from the state were equipped to meet up with the high standards needed to excel in the world of learning and research.

The tablets, she added, “are installed with softwares of lesson notes and textbooks on 17 subjects offered by students of secondary schools, as well as past questions and answers on the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), National Examination Council (NECO) and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).”

The launch and distribution of the computer tablets, which also contain other extra-curricular subjects, including sexuality education, entrepreneurship, civic and computer education, yoruba history and traditional religion, according to the deputy governor, “is a further attestation to the resolute pursuit of innovation in the state education sector.”

PDP Wants Fashola Impeached Over Tolls On Roads

CITING abuse of power, the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Sunday urged the State House of Assembly to commence impeachment moves against Governor Babatunde Fashola over plans to collect tolls on roads in the state, especially on the new Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge.

In a statement, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Taofik Gani noted that Fashola had on Democracy Day shocked announced plans to commence another tolling on Lagos roads especially the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge.

But in a swift reaction, the state Publicity Secretary of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Joe Igbokwe has dismissed the PDP’s call for Fashola’s impeachment, describing it as baseless and lacking in merit.

He said Fashola’s administration had raised the standard of governance in the state “to such an extent that other governors including the PDP-led states now look up to Lagos for development plans in their states. That is why Fashola is being referred to as headmaster among the governors.”

According to Taofik: “It was immoral to allow the governor toll roads that are wholly built with taxpayers’ monies.

“Even the ongoing tolling of the Lekki-Epe Road that the lawmakers acquiesced to is morally wrong as they know well that a project ought to be completed and delivered before it can be paid for. In this instance, the tolling has started whereas the actual design and benefits from the said road have not even been completed which is exploitation.”

Insisting that this was high time the state legislators stood for what was right by removing the governor, Taofik said, “the lawmakers must find their ways back into the hearts of the people and particularly to prove to them that they are not stooges and puppets of the governor and the only way to prove this is to stop the tolling of the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge. As a matter of fact, they must also commence the probe of the alleged N29 billion spent to construct the said bridge.”

He added that the conception that Lagos was in bondage of a business syndicate ably aided and abetted by Fashola could be put straight at this time “if the lawmakers remained resolute and rejected the tolling of the bridge. They must also at this point curtail Fashola’s arrogant posture in the governance of the state.

“There is serious need for the Lagos House of Assembly to do a holistic review of all the anti-people policies by Fashola and find ways to reverse them.

The party added: “Fashola’s imperialist system has pauperised so many people in Lagos and the time to stop it is now. The desperation to commence the tolling of the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge is indeed immoral, exploitative and further gives credence to the suspicion that even the purported repairs of some Federal Government roads in the state are indeed inflated to make extra profits into some private pockets.

Igbokwe also cautioned the PDP against the implications of inciting the people against the government, saying that “Lagos has never had the type of positive development being witnessed under the present administration.”

Jonathan under fire for endorsing jang.

Opposition parties and prominent lawyers on
Sunday blasted President Goodluck Jonathan
for recognising the Jonah Jang faction of the
Nigeria Governors' Forum.
The Action Congress of Nigeria, the Congress
for Progress Change as well as lawyers,
including Prof. Itse Sagay and Mallam Yusuf
Ali condemned Jonathan's action.
The governors had on May 24, 2013, held an
election, where the Rivers State Governor,
Rotimi Amaechi, got 19 votes to defeat his
opponent, Mr. Jonah Jang of Plateau State,
who scored 16 votes.
But some governors, led by the Chairman of
the Peoples Democratic Party Governors'
Forum, Chief Godswill Akpabio, had faulted
the election, insisting that Amaechi's term as
the NGF chairman had ended and chose to
recognise the Plateau State governor, thus
splitting the NGF into factions.
Jang faction had on Friday visited Jonathan
who recognised Jang as the chairman of the
forum.
On Sunday, the ACN said the President's
action was a travesty of democracy.
The ACN, in a statement issued in Osogbo,
Osun State, on Sunday by its National Publicity
Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the
President's ill-advised decision had shown
that he had little or no respect for
democracy.
The party recalled that Jonathan's spokesman
had in a statement the day after the NGF
election said, "The President has always
shown a willingness to work harmoniously
with any leadership freely and independently
chosen by the Governors Forum for the
collective progress and development of all
sections of the country and will continue to do
so.
"…President Jonathan trusts that as true
democrats and respected national political
leaders, members of the Governors Forum
will quickly resolve the issues and differences
amongst them which emerged yesterday (May
24th) and continue to contribute effectively to
national development as a strong, and
progressive body."
The ACN said, ''But it is now clear that the
Presidency's statement is not worth the paper
on which it is written, that in the Nigerian
Presidency, words do not carry their exact
meanings and that the spokesmen for the
President speak for no one but themselves.
"When viewed in the context of similar
deceitful statements by the presidency in the
past, especially on the health of the First
Lady, one can see a growing pattern of a lying
presidency, a presidency that likes to hide
behind one finger. This is sad, because
without credibility, a President cannot govern
successfully."
On its part, the CPC said it was clear that
Jonathan was behind the Jang group from the
beginning.
The CPC spokesman, Fashakin, who spoke with
one of our correspondents, said the President
did not believe that Amaechi would help him
in his second term ambition.
He said, "The deception did not travel for too
long. President Goodluck Jonathan's
endorsement of Jang as the 'elected'
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum
has finally exposed the source of the
contrived crisis in the NGF.
"President Jonathan did not believe that the
Rivers Governor's re-election would be
helpful to his own re-election bid in 2015.
"He plotted, using the platform of his party to
truncate Amaechi's ambition. At first, a new
platform for PDP governors was birthed, with
a fierce Jonathan-loyalist in charge!
"For any dispassionate and discerning
observer, this puerile predication of the anti-
Amaechi group's dissent is laughable and
utterly ludicrous.
"This anti-democratic stance should not
surprise anyone familiar with PDP's brand of
democracy. The split in the NGF was the
impetus needed by the leaders of PDP to
unveil the plan for ensuring distortion of the
nation's electoral process hereafter," he
added.
He appealed to the international community
to take greater interest in Nigeria's
democracy which he alleged was alien to the
President's brand of what he described as
"deleterious politics."
Also, some senior lawyers on Sunday
condemned the recognition of the Jang
faction by the President.
The lawyers who spoke in separate telephone
interviews with our correspondent are Prof
Itse Sagay, Chief Mike Ahamba, Mallam Yusuf
Ali and Chief Solo Akuma, all Senior
Advocates of Nigeria.
Sagay stressed that Amaechi faction was the
only legitimate faction of the NGF, and
described the Jang-led group as a "breakaway
faction."
He also faulted Jonathan's support for the
Jang faction.
Sagay said Jonathan did not act like a
statesman.
"Everybody knows that there is only one
legitimate faction of the NGF and that is the
one led by Amaechi.
"For a President it is a big mistake, he should
not take sides. He should have worked with
the chairman that was elected, that is what a
statesman President should do, instead he is
now leading those who are contesting against
Amaechi.
"He has become a factional leader."
Ali said the endorsement of the Jang faction
by the President did not come as a surprise,
since the crisis in the NGF was orchestrated
by the presidency.
"It didn't come to me as a surprise; it was
clear to all political watchers and observers
that the disagreement within the NGF was
orchestrated by the presidency," he said.
On his part, Ahamba described the
controversy over the chairmanship of the
NGF as "much ado about nothing."
According to him, the NGF is unconstitutional,
hence its leadership should be
inconsequential.
But Ahamba expressed regrets that state
governors could not hold a successful
election.
He said, "He (Jonathan) can recognise anybody
he wants to recognise but as far as I am
concerned all these trouble about the NGF is
much ado about nothing.
"That organisation has no constitutional locus
in this country.
"Why we should spend so much time fighting
over the chairmanship of such a private body
that has no place in our constitution is a
surprise to me."
Akuma said the implication of Jonathan's
action was that he had decided to work with
the Jang faction.
But the Presidency, through the Special
Adviser to the President on Political Matters,
Dr. Ahmed Gulak, on Sunday justified the
endorsement of the Jang faction.
He said the President did the right thing by
recognising the man with the majority of
followers.
Gulak, in an exclusive interview with one of
our correspondents, said contrary to the lies
being fed the nation, the Plateau State
Governor won the NGF election with 21, out
of 36 state governors, solidly behind him.
He said that aside from winning the election,
there was no provision for a second term in
the constitution of the NGF up until Amaechi
concocted it.
He said, "Governor Jang did not lose the NGF
election, he won the election. Out of 35 state
governors, 21 are queuing behind him. These
are mature and responsible people, they can't
be behind him if he did not win.
"These opposition parties, be it ACN, CPC or
APC, don't they know simple arithmetic? Jang
has the majority behind him and President
Jonathan came out to recognise the man with
the majority.
"The facts are there. The governors are not
dead, they are alive. The President is doing
the right thing by standing behind Jang.
"By the way, there is no room for second
term in the NGF constitution until Amaechi
concocted it. It is a shame, leaders should be
truthful."
